Real crush levante with second half salvo of the game

Tottenham won the second half as well as a quarter of an hour and, though they still lost a penalty, they still made a late charge across goal to open the scoring.

But it was not to be as Mauricio Pochettino's side held on to their 2-1 lead after 30 minutes.

Javier Hernandez headed straight at James Ward-Prowse, who headed wide the second time.

The hosts had another chance as Demba Ba hit the post, only to find his shot deflect off the bar by Jamie Vardy.

Dynamo Moscow defender Victor Moses was booked twice for handball and Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris was dismissed for dissent as they were unable to break the deadlock.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was delighted with the result, having given his team a run of eight consecutive games without conceding a goal in the league.

He said: "We created the first two chances and it did not seem that they would be punished.

"We will have to take them (the two goals) into consideration and we need to make things harder for the next match. But we will enjoy the game.

"I am happy we had a solid 90 minutes as we had chances to improve but it is up to the teams to finish them. We will have to do better if we are going to keep pace with Manchester United and Barcelona and they will give more goals.

"The players played well at a good level, they are not overawed by us, we will have to improve to be better."

Inquest adjourns into police officers disappearance for five days with no announcement.

A week earlier the coroner, Dr William Jackson, had announced in his ruling that the inquest had been held, after a week of silence, amid speculation of his dismissal over the death of his daughter last year, which would have put in question the inquest.

Mr Smith said there had been no sign of any attempt to keep the inquiry alive and suggested it could now be closed for up to five days without any announcements.

Dr Jackson told the coroner he did not know whether Mr Smith had been a victim of physical harm and the nature of that injury.

Detective Inspector Paul Clements, senior investigating officer for East Renfrewshire Police, said he was not aware of any case where an inquest had been held while a member of the public had been detained and questioned by police.

He said that since his officers began their inquiry a month ago they had detained several local people and questioned them on three occasions.

He said: "Obviously we don't normally hold investigations like this on the anniversary of a murder, so it is disappointing if the coroner is going to have to accept the possibility that we may have arrested an innocent person and questioned him on Thursday.

"To make an arrest is very very rare for us and we expect our officers to work hard.

"If they find evidence, which they will try to do in any circumstances, of an arrest to which they are committed, that officer will deal with it as swiftly as possible.

"We will take appropriate action should that happen.

"If that happens, which in my view I don't think is likely given these events that have unfolded it is unlikely to be done before that investigation resumes, which is why we will try our hardest to ensure our processes continue to operate normally."

Police will investigate any suspicion of unlawful activity involving a member of the public or his or her family, he added.

When asked about the possible closing of the inquest, Mr Smith said: "I don't think there is anything more they can do to me than that. We have a long-standing inquiry going, I don't have any issues with it at all.

"At the beginning, there was a period of time where I was the one under arrest, but since then, there hasn't been any new evidence to confirm that fact, they seem to have made the investigation all up.

"My family is very satisfied and we are all supportive.

"We think it's very important to keep investigating and the inquest remains the most appropriate place for it."

Mr Smith, who has seven children aged between five and 18, added: "There's been no further involvement from either of the polic
